I like it that the Big Spring book is subtitled The Casual Biography of a Prairie Town. It was written in 1942; my version was signed by the author in 1947. Also, the book jacket tells us that the book "makes no pretence of being a literary masterpiece." And, the author sketches in "pungent" details. No wonder I am afraid to read it.
